Building a sculpture-the process
I build unique hand crafted animal sculptures, all of which begin life from a single block of clay. The basic shape of the piece is first created with slabs of clay that are then wrapped in paper. I can spend hours perfecting the detail before my sculpture is dry, ready for it’s first firing in the kiln.
The sculpture is then decorated with oxides, glazes, slips, stains and under glazes, before being re-fired at either earthenware or stoneware temperatures. Often I finish the piece by introducing complimentary materials such as, wood, coconut, nylon and copper.
Nothing is replicated. If you are interested in purchasing a sculpture, please contact me.
