Building a sculpture-the process
I build unique hand-crafted animal sculptures, wall hangings and a range of vessels, all of which begin life from a single block of clay. My sculptures all start by creating the basic shape of the piece with slabs of clay that are then wrapped in paper. With the use of clay coils, I then add the limbs, head and neck of the piece. I can spend hours perfecting the fine detail before it dries ready for it’s first firing in the kiln.
The piece is then decorated with oxides, glazes and underglazes before it is re-fired again, at either earthenware or stoneware temperatures. Finally, I finish my sculptures by introducing complimentary mediums such as, wood, coconut, nylon and copper.
Sculptures are all signed by myself and sold with a certificate of authenticity. Nothing is replicated.
